No driver on the road is unfamiliar with the following scenario: You’ve been out all day, work or school was a nightmare, traffic is snarled as far as the eye can see, and the only thing you want in the world is to sit down in front of the television for some “me time” and relaxation. And wouldn’t you know it – your gas light comes on, indicating it is time for a fill up. The last thing in the world you want to do in that moment is stop for gas, so you drive the rest of the way home, deciding to handle it tomorrow. But is that really an OK thing to do?
You Could Run Out Of Gas
The most obvious problem that could occur is that your car could run out of gas completely, leaving you stranded. If this happens, what was yesterday afternoon a 10-minute chore now becomes and afternoon-killing ordeal, with either calling a tow truck or walking with a gas can. So to avoid this embarrassing eventuality, when that gas light comes on, it is time to stop and fill up.
Your Car Is Designed To Run On Gas
Your car’s fuel filter is made be submerged in gasoline, so when you drive on empty, it can be operating in open air, causing misfires and problems. Eventually, a fuel filter malfunction can turn into an expensive repair, so making sure your tank always has fuel in it is a financially good decision. Driving on empty can also damage other parts of your fuel line, so it is always a good idea to heed that gas light.
